Seniors

SHAI partners with the Great Neck Social Center on Grace Avenue, a Great Neck Public Schools facility, with the goal of enriching and enhancing the lives of Persian seniors in our community. This collaboration was initiated in 2003 through SHAI board member Parvaneh Khodadadian's tireless volunteer work at the Center. In 2007, working with Center Director Anne Tarcher and Center President Phoebe Lazarus, SHAI formalized this partnership with a financial commitment to support the Center’s operational expenses, enabling the expansion of activities, outings, and events that enhance the vitality and enjoyment of our community’s seniors.

Monday through Friday each week, nearly 150 seniors from the Persian community, ages 60 to 100, are provided with programming, door-to-door transportation, kosher meals, and companionship. In a safe and caring environment, with trained Farsi-speaking staff members, our seniors enjoy a full range of stimulating activities, including movies, exercise, day trips, dances, tea and conversations, English classes, card games, speakers, art classes, and Bingo.

SHAI would like to acknowledge our local officials, for their ongoing support, commitment, and attention to the needs of the many seniors in the Persian Jewish community.
