SHAI hosted its annual education panel in co-sponsorship with the United Parent Teacher Council’s Total Community Involvement Committee on Monday evening, April 20, 2026, in the Community Room of the Great Neck Public Library. Entitled “Future-Proofing Our Students: Helping young people navigate learning, responsibility, and opportunity in an age of AI,” the event invited families, educators, and community members into an important conversation about how we are preparing students for a constantly evolving world shaped by AI. As artificial intelligence becomes a bigger part of school, work, and everyday life, important questions are emerging. How should young people use these tools? Where is the line between support and misuse? How are schools responding, and what does this mean for college, careers, and the future? Panelists included Superintendent of Great Neck Public Schools, Dr. Kenneth Bossert; Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Dr. Daniel Holtzman; District Technology Head, Dr. Justin Lerner; Assistant Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Programs, Dr. Maya Lerner; and both Directors of high school guidance, Mr. Michael Neary and Dr. Jo-AnnEyre Cruz. Panelists explored responsible AI use at school and at home, academic integrity, equity, district guidance, and the skills and mindsets students need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
