Sephardic Jewish Film Festival and Fashion Night

On April 4th, SHAI co-sponsored  the 24th New York Sephardic Film Festival with the Mosie Safra Center and the American Sephardic Federation (ASF). The evening honored Elie Tahari and featured a documentary, a meet and greet, and a fashion show with Elie’s pieces. Co-president Erika Goldstein Kashi spoke on behalf of SHAI. Fellow board members Edna Khalily, Marjan Greenblatt, Mojgan Lancman, and Josephine Mairzadeh attended.

SHAI has also partnered with ASF on a Persian Jewish oral history project. Initiated by SHAI board member Judge Mojgan Lancman, the project reflects the importance of recording and preserving the experience of Persian Jews, including both the rituals and practices of the community that lived in Iran for 2,500 years and the stories of those who migrated from Iran. Through the efforts of Judge Lancman’s husband, New York City Councilman Rory Lancman, funding was secured from the NYC Council for ASF, in partnership with SHAI, to conduct an oral history of Persian Jews.  SHAI was proud to join in recognizing the accomplishments of honoree Elie Tahari, and to partner in preserving and publicizing our community’s proud history.
