For over 22 years SHAI’s Senior Program has worked tirelessly to provide a place for our parents and grandparents to come together. Under the leadership of SHAI member Mrs. Parvaneh Khodadadian, and with generous supporters and a wonderfully compassionate group of volunteers, SHAI’s partnership with the Town of North Hempstead Senior Social Center continues to flourish. During the COVID pandemic and beyond, SHAI’s Senior program provided counseling and delivered kosher meals during the week as well as full meals for Shabbat and Yom Tov. In addition to the full complement of activities taking place three days a week at the Social Center, throughout the year there are also special celebrations, which include music, food, and presents for all.
In June, our seniors celebrated Father’s Day in the Great Neck Social Center garden with a D.J. and numerous fun activities. During July and August, each Monday features a trip to Bar Beach for a full day of fun, food, and activities. For Rosh Hashana, the center provided participants with 170 packages of apples, honey, and 20-pound bags of basmati rice. Our volunteers continue to foster an environment that not only physically feeds our seniors, but one in which their minds and souls are nurtured as well. Please feel free to come, visit, and join us!
