During COVID, under the tireless watch of Mrs. Parvaneh Khodadadian and her angels, SHAI provided meals to our seniors. With the senior center closed and seniors unable to leave their homes, for 5 months SHAI delivered Shabbat food to 120 families with the help of a generous anonymous donor and our volunteers. We recently re-started the program again at the senior center, with vaccinated attendees meeting three times a week. In November we held an in-person “Celebrating Life” luncheon at Temple Israel with over 400 seniors in attendance. Celebrating with live music by Payman and Edik, guests came to honor life, and to recognize our strength during these hard times. On Chanukah we had celebrations, with candle lighting and singing with Rabbi Stecker and Chazan Shamash from Temple Israel. After Chanukah the Senior Center had a dance contest with Arash the Singer and the 6 best dancers got amazing prizes.
Thank you to Mrs. Khodadadian for single-handedly spearheading and running this program and to all our volunteers. Special thanks to Sima Alvandi, Mojgan Khalily, Shanaz Kashani, Lilly Kashani, Vahedeh Morad, Shirin Moinian, and Homa Homai for being so incredible and for making a difference in so many people’s lives.
