Men’s Health Panel Discussion

On February 24th, the Sephardic Heritage Alliance Inc. (SHAI) proudly sponsored an inspiring community event at Cherry Lane Minyan titled “Men’s Health: Longevity, Wellness & Quality of Life.” The evening brought together community members for an engaging panel discussion and audience Q&A dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of men’s physical and mental health. The program emphasized that men often place the needs of others before their own, yet caring for their health is essential not only for their personal wellbeing but also for the strength and stability of their families and the community as a whole. The central message of the evening was clear: healthier men become healthier husbands, fathers, role models, and more productive members of society, creating a positive ripple effect that benefits future generations.

The distinguished panel featured Dr. Robert Rahmani, cardiologist; Dr. David Gabbaizadeh, gastroenterologist; Dr. Nasser Sedaghatpour, psychiatrist; and Rabbi Barak Levy, spiritual leader and first responder. Each panelist offered a unique perspective on achieving longevity, resilience, and overall wellness. The moderator was Dr. Asal Rabizadeh, who has a PhD in psychology.

Dr. Robert Rahmani discussed the importance of cardiovascular health as the foundation for a long and active life. He emphasized the role of preventive medicine, regular medical screenings, physical activity, healthy nutrition, and stress management in reducing the risk of heart disease and improving quality of life.

Dr. David Gabbaizadeh highlighted the vital connection between digestive health and overall wellbeing. He explained how proper nutrition, a healthy gut, and early detection of gastrointestinal conditions contribute not only to physical health but also to improved energy, immune function, and emotional wellness.

Dr. Nasser Sedaghatpour addressed the often-overlooked topic of men’s mental health, encouraging attendees to recognize that emotional struggles are common and treatable. He spoke about reducing the stigma surrounding anxiety, depression, and stress, emphasizing that seeking professional help is a sign of strength and an important step toward living a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Rabbi Barak Levy, spiritual leader and first responder, shared a meaningful perspective on the spiritual and emotional challenges many men face while balancing the responsibilities of family, work, and community. He encouraged participants to build stronger connections through faith, community support, and open conversations, reminding everyone that true strength includes the courage to ask for help and support one another.

The evening concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, followed by a dessert reception that allowed attendees to continue meaningful conversations with the panelists and one another. SHAI is proud to have hosted this important event and remains committed to promoting educational programs that strengthen the health, resilience, and well-being of our community. By encouraging men to invest in their physical, mental, and spiritual health, we help build stronger families, healthier relationships, and a more vibrant community for generations to come.
