Two hundred people attended the 3rd SHAI Nowruz Music and Art event this last March hosted by Temple Beth El. The evening featured the music ensemble of Arieh Aghajani, Santourist, Katayoon, singer and AliBello on violin accompanied by percussionist. The evening’s emcee was our own former president Mike Delafraz, with a prayer and poem given by Parvaneh Sarraf. The meaning of Nowruz and significance of the beautiful Haf-sin set by Temple Beth El was explained by our Hon. Mojgan Lancman. Poems by Rumi, Hafez, and Omar Khayam were recited by our community members, including Eleanor Askari and Raymond Irayami. Also featured was the debut of Galeet and Danielle Dardashti’s new Podcast “The Nightingale of Iran,” a nostalgic discussion of the musical career of the great Younes Dardashti and his family’s migration to Iran and their assimilation into American culture.
