On October 15, 2023, SHAI and Temple Israel co-sponsored a screening of the film “Between the Shells.”  Almost 100 people came to Temple Israel to view the film, which highlights the artistic career of a local Iranian-Jewish artist, Mr. Jalil Harooni. Members of Mr. Harooni’s family were in attendance, as well as the filmmaker, Shirin Raban, who flew in from Los Angeles.  Organized by SHAI Vice President Marjan Keypour Greenblatt, the event came in the shadow of the crisis in Israel.  But as SHAI Co-President Erika Kashi explained before Hazzan Shamash commenced the event with tehilim and prayers for Israel, “We chose not to cancel tonight’s event because we are one large community that stands unified with Israel.  We will not stop living our lives or our unwavering support of our brothers and sisters in Israel. This beautiful artistic historical film depicts the necessity of community and unity which is exactly the mission of SHAI and Temple Israel.”
