Celebrating Nowruz – Museum of Jewish Heritage

SHAI had the privilege of cosponsoring a day of celebration honoring Purim and Nowruz at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park on March 24, 2024. This was a truly unique and historic event combining Jewish and Iranian cultures at one of the most prominent museums in the United States.  The day was filled with stories, images, flavors, and sounds that represent our heritage including arts and crafts; a screening of Song of the North, a film by Hamid Rahmanian based on the epic story of Shahnameh; a book reading by Esther Amini;  a conversation with the creators of the top rated podcast, The Nightingale of Iran with Galeet and Danielle Dardashti, moderated by Marjan Keypour; and an unforgettable musical performance by Tania Eshagoff’s Nowruz Ensemble. Participants visited the state-of-the-art museum and sipped on cardamom tea and noshed on traditional delicacies of “ash reshteh” and “hamantashen,” while listening to festive music and even testing their backgammon chops in a massive tournament!  Other co-sponsors of this event included American Sephardi Federation, B’Chol Lashon, Pardis, Sephardic Jewish Brotherhood of America, and USBGF.  SHAI thanks the Museum of Jewish Heritage for hosting this special event and including SHAI as a prominent contributor to the day. Thank you to our SHAI board members, Tania Friedberg and Marjan Keypour for all your dedication into making this day a success.
